The Greeks, Jews, and Egyptians didn't have numbers like we do, (i.e. 0-9). Instead, what they had were letters that were substituted for words. What you would do is add up the sum of the letters, and get a total value for that letter. This value is called the gematria. Greek Numerical System
(A note here: This correlation is based upon Gemetria, not on linguistics. For instance, the word LVYTN is Lammed-Vau-Yod-Teth-Nun. This equals 30+6+10+9+50. That equals to 105. Examine your knowledge of gemetria and see what that gets you.) To answer some questions and avoid confusion, there are variations in transliterations in every non-Anglocized language. Thus, you can find a wide variety of spellings for both Hebrew and Arabic languages. The version of Hebrew I am using comes from the transliteration body provided by the Hebrew Language Association, which is an Israeli institute set up for the purpose of providing a standardized transliteration guide. I'm not aware of a similar language association existing for the Greeks, but if you do know one, don't hesistate to fill out the contact form. http://www.satan4u.8m.com/contact.html |
